The Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device represents the future. Much has computers have revolutionized the way we live, these portable reading "books" will also have a huge impact on our lives. Of course there will still be collectors. However in the same way that many people now buy music in MP3 format instead of purchasing a hard copy on vinyl or CD, there will be millions of us giving up the soft back book in favor of the software book. This article will discuss my five top reasons to buy a Kindle.
Four reasons to buy a Kindle
Makes "collecting" books simple
Unlike my father, I am not a book collector. We are however both, book readers. The only reasons I keep books that I have read is a) for reference and b) to read again. Other than that I pass the ones I recommend on to friends to read. My apartment is so small that space really is at a premium so putting used books on a shelf just for posterity is impractical. By becoming a Kindle reader, my friends are the ones who lose out on not receiving free books from me. However it means that I can collect books without having to waste space to do so. If you buy a Kindle from Amazon you will have the ability to save up to 1,500 "books" on the Kindle reader itself.
Truly portable
The Kindle 2 is small, lightweight and easy to take with you whether you commute to work on a daily basis or are an international jet-setter. Its dimensions are 8" x 5.3" x 0.36". This makes it smaller than many paperbacks in height and width and almost certainly smaller in width. Of course if you decide to buy a cover you will find that this increases the overall size of the electronic book but it is certainly a good idea to protect your investment. Although, it is hard to say which is the best Kindle cover. The device is also a light weight device coming in at just 10.2 ounces.
Get free books
The range of eBooks available for the Kindle reader is huge. The prices for eBooks are often cheaper than buying the same title as a paperback. This represents a saving in and of itself. Even more impressive is the fact that books now out of copyright are offered as a free download to Kindle users. When you find out that this range of books is made up of over 1,800,000 titles this represents more than a lifetime's worth of reading material. So with a Kindle you literally need never buy another book again. Of course if you want the latest best sellers this is not really an option. However there is an amazing amount of popular classic titles to choose from for free.
The Kindle is easy to use
Unlike many other electronic devices today for example the iPod, the Kindle does not need to be hooked up to a computer for it to function. It will work straight out of the box. This means that it is not just for tech gadget geeks. The Kindle along with similar electronic readers such as the Sony PRS-505 represent the future of reading. Children grow up now a days using computers as part of their daily lives. This was not true 30 years ago. In another thirty years the amount of people reading physical books will certainly be less than at present as we move towards reading "books" like the Kindle Wireless Reading Device.
