The typical Western diet could be termed an acid diet. We eat far too many acidic foods in too large quantities.

Eating a more alkaline based diet would allow us to balance our bodies pH. This is important for the health of our blood which must maintain a slightly alkaline pH level for optimum health.

The acidity of the typical Western diet comes from all the refined sugars, processed foods, fatty meats and high salt content of our diets.

If we replaced some of the acidic foods we eat with alkali foods, in particular fruit and vegetables there are a variety of health benefits that would accrue. Greater energy levels throughout the day, improved levels of mental alertness and more restful sleep are just some of the many gains we can make by improving our diets.

Balance is what's important. There's nothing wrong with eating our favorite foods as long as we take care and remember to consume proper fuel as well. Making improvements to our Western acidic diets is easy. All we have to do is try. I began by eating more of an alkaline breakfast.
